Trouble in Paradise Art Installation

The Installation

‘Trouble in Paradise’ will debut at Cairns’ Ecofiesta on 29 May in Munro Martin Park.

The timber used to construct the mural and surrounding structure is be constructed from recycled timber from local building projects, with dimensions 2.4m width x 4.8m height.

The shelf below holds the plastic reef sculptures made from plastic debris collected from Far North Queensland’s shorelines .

This installation will shine a spotlight on the critical issue of plastic pollution in our oceans.

‘Trouble in Paradise’ involves a painted mural board, painted by Sara and Claudia from Fat Frog Studio, depicting two scuba divers surrounded by coral reef and marine animal sculptures. These will be constructed from plastic collected from beach clean ups in the greater Cairns area in partnership with Tangaroa Blue.

This will be a community project as pieces of the plastic reef structures will be made by volunteers and community groups, including Harbrow Mentoring - an organisation that provides mentoring and leadership for young people in Cairns.

This will encourage local engagement on the issue, and demonstrate the power of individual actions in creating a big movement.

We will be holding a raffle to raise money to be divided equally between our charity partners. Raffle tickets will be $7 per ticket, 2 for $10, or 3 for $15.

Current raffle prizes include:

  • Passions of Paradise: A trip for two adults to the reef, including morning and afternoon tea, a smorgasbord lunch, and all snorkeling equipment.

  • PADI e-learning Gift Voucher and a Pro Dive in water training

  • The Courtyard $50 Gift Voucher
